Is it worth having the Alaska Airlines visa platinum? I originally got it while in Alaska, but I’m already part of the 49th club and really just use my American Airlines card for everything else.

Topic 1: Booking a cruise

- How do I book? A. You can book on Royal Caribbean's website or through a travel agent/3rd party travel service. You can also call Royal Caribbean directly to book (US number: 866-562-7625).
- How do I get to my cruise? A. Most people do not live within driving distance of their cruise, meaning a flight is sometimes required. General advice is to fly into your cruise port at least one full day before your sailing to account for flight delays. The ship will not wait for you if you are late. You alternatively can book your flights through Royal Caribbean through the Air2Sea program, though it is still advised to fly in a day early.
- What if the price of my cruise changes? A. Before final payment date (generally 75-90 days before sailing) you can re-price your cruise as many times as you would like to the current rate if you booked in the US. The difference will be refunded to your credit card or taken off your remaining balance owed. After final payment, you typically can't reprice your sailing and if anything may be offered on board credit to account for a fare drop.
- How do I check in? A. Through the Royal Caribbean app (log in, add your sailing with your booking number, swipe to the left and look for a blue "check in" button) or on the website (sign in, find your cruise or add it at the bottom of the page if you do not see it listed, then click "check in").
- Do I need a passport? A. US citizens can cruise with a US passport book that MUST be valid for at least 6 months from the last day of your cruise. Alternatively you can use an original birth certificate (with a raised seal) and government-issued photo ID on closed-loop sailings (that start and end from the same US port).
- Do I need to be vaccinated against COVID-19? Do I need to test? A. Requirements are constantly changing. Please check here for current vaccination and testing requirements.

Topic 2: Inclusions in your cruise fare

- Food: Your cruise ticket includes all food needed for the duration of your cruise. You do not need to spend any extra money on food if you do not wish to do so. Food is complimentary in the main dining room (breakfast (B), lunch (L) on sea days, dinner (D)), the Windjammer marketplace buffet (B/L/D), Johnny Rockets only for breakfast and only on Oasis class ships, Promenade Cafe, Park Cafe, Cafe 270, Sorrentos pizza, and Solarium Bistro (B/L/D on select ships). Coastal Kitchen is the complementary suites-only restaurant available on select ships, open B/L/D for grand suites and above, D only for junior suites. Room service is free for continental breakfast, incurs a $7.95 fee plus gratuity for full B/L/D however all food is included after that fee is paid.
- I've heard about the main dining room (MDR)! Do I need reservations? A. The main dining room is the main complementary dining venue on board where you can expect multi-course, full service meals with varying nightly menus. At the time of booking you will have two options: My Time dining or traditional dining. My Time dining is a reservation system that lets you select the time you'd like to eat each evening, usually from 6:45-8:30 PM. Times vary by ship. You can also just show up to the stand by line during My Time dining hours and wait for the next available table. This option is great if you want to change your dining time each night to better fit the activities you want to do. Traditional dining will be a set dining time each night (5:30 PM for early seating, 8 PM for late seating). You will have the same table and wait staff each evening. If you do traditional dining, no reservations are required, you just show up at your selected time and your table numbedeck number for dinner will be printed on your SeaPass card.
- Do you have any pro tips for the MDR? A. Absolutely! My favorite is asking for the Indian options each evening. These are typically not listed on the menu, however there is almost always a meat and vegetarian Indian option on offer and they are fantastic. Usually these are various curries and stews served with naan or roti. These dishes are not usually spicy, but ask beforehand if this is a concern (or preference)! Additionally, a vegan menu is always available and sometimes I select those options just to try something new. On the app, scroll to the bottom of a given night's menu to see the vegan options.
- Beverages: Tap water, iced tea, lemonade, hot coffee, hot tea, non-fresh squeezed juices at breakfast, and milk are included in your cruise fare.
- Entertainment: Shows, including broadway shows on select ships, comedy, live music, and most activities are included in your cruise fare. See your cruise compass for exact offerings. Events that cost extra are marked with a "$" symbol. Shows can be reserved in advance on select sailings. Check the cruise planner website and app prior to your cruise to see if this is an option and reserve your shows as early as possible. On some sailings, advanced reservations may only be made once on board and connected to the ship's WiFi. On many smaller ships, reservations are not required.
- Accommodations: Your stateroom selected during your booking serves as your accomodations for the sailing. You will have a morning and evening cleaning service for your room, including restocking towels and having your bed made/turned down. Rooms include a TV, private bathroom, and a bed that can be separated into twin beds. Some rooms accommodate extra guests with pullman beds/pullout sofa beds. This will be designated on the deck plan for your stateroom at the time of booking. Please note that some higher-level suites will include things such as WiFi, unlimited specialty dining, a deluxe drink package and more. Check here to see what the suite you are looking at includes.
- Tips: Gratuities are not included in your cruise fare, but are essentially required. These tips can be paid before your sailing or will be automatically added to your SeaPass on-board account once on board. Current gratuity rates are $16/day for non-suites and $18.50/day for suites, per person. Gratuities are critical for supporting crew members who make your vacation special and should not be removed for any reason. Some sailings include tips in their fare, such as those booked in Australia.
- WiFi: WiFi of any kind is not included in your fare. You can purchase a "Voom" internet package on the cruise planner in advance of your cruise or once on board. Both full sailing passes and 24 hour passes are offered on board. The 24 hour passes can't be paused, it runs continuously until it expires. It is generally a better deal to purchase these packages in advance. You can use the ship WiFi for free to use the Royal app.
- Gym: The fitness center is included in your cruise fare and is unfortunately not open 24 hours on all ships. Some ships have hours such as 5 AM - 9 PM, so that the gym can be deep cleaned overnight. Amenities vary by ship, but expect everything you'd typically find in a land-based gym. Fitness classes cost extra with the exception of the morning stretch classes.

Topic 3: Packages/extras

- How do I pay for things on board? A. Your SeaPass card functions as your room key and payment method on the ship. I'd advise linking it to a credit or debit card to skip lines at the end of the sailing for those settling their statements in cash.
- Alcohol: Alcoholic drinks are not included in your fare. Prices vary, but typically expect to spend $7-9/beer, $8-15/glass of wine, $9-12/shot, $14/cocktail plus 18% automatic gratuity. Drinks can be purchased a la carte with your SeaPass card or with a package, see below. See Topic 8 below for an important exception to this: Diamond/Diamond Plus/Pinnacle drink vouchers.
- Drink packages: Multiple types of packages are offered, with pricing changing dynamically before your cruise. The deluxe beverage package (DBP) offers the classic "unlimited" experience, covering pretty much any drink including alcohol up to $14/drink. Many people ask for the "breakeven" point to determine if it is worth getting a DBP. The best way to figure this out for yourself is to look at the current rate of the DBP on your cruise planner and see if you feel you can drink enough drinks per day to exceed that cost if you were to pay a la carte. Don't forget non-alcoholic premium drinks are included (espresso-based coffee drinks, bottled still/sparkling water, Powerades, soda, milkshakes) - so factor this in your equation. The DBP pricing is dynamic, but expect $65-$105 per person, per day.
Another option is the refreshment package. This package is considerably cheaper than the DBP, however does not include alcohol. Think of this as the "soda plus premium non-alcoholic drinks package", like espresso-based coffees, mocktails, etc. It typically is approx $25/day per person.
Finally is the soda package. This option is typically around $10/day per person and grants package holders unlimited fountain and canned sodas, including from the Coke Freestyle machines.
*Beverage packages must be purchased for all eligible individuals in a cabin. For the DBP, this applies to anyone over 21 years old for North American sailings.
**Gratuities are paid at time of purchasing the package, so no additional tipping is required, however if a bartender is providing excellent service, adding an additional dollar or two makes their day!
One last thing to note: you can buy a Cafe Select card, usually $30-38. This card entitles you to 15 small-size espresso-based drinks and is the only type of package that can be used across multiple sailings. You are given a small paper card that has the numbers 1-15 for the barista to cross off when you redeem a drink. This is a great option for those with Diamond/Pinnacle drink vouchers who want to reduce the price of espresso drinks without using a voucher towards it! This package is shareable and does NOT require everyone in the cabin to buy it.
- Is a drink package worth it? A. The best way to figure this out for yourself is to look at the current rate of the package you want on your cruise planner and see if you feel you can drink enough drinks per day to exceed that cost if you were to pay a la carte. Don't forget non-alcoholic premium drinks are included in the DBP (espresso-based coffee drinks, bottled still/sparkling water, Powerades, soda, milkshakes) - so factor this in your equation. The DBP pricing is dynamic, but expect $65-$105 per person, per day.
- Dining packages/specialty dining: Specialty dining varies by ship, but includes options like Chops Grille (steakhouse), Jamie's Italian/Giovannis Italian, Izumi (sushi/teppanyaki), Wonderland, Playmakers sports bar, etc. Pricing is typically a set cover per restaurant, check your cruise planner for exact pricing. You can also consider a dining package. There are three main varieties: Chops + 1 (includes dining at Chops Grille and one other restaurant of your choice), 3 Night Package (includes 3 specialty dining restaurants of your choice), and the unlimited dining package (includes any and all restaurants, including a set amount at restaurants that are a la carte, like Playmakers). Gratuities are included automatically for any specialty dining reservations or packages at 18%, however adding a few extra dollars is appreciated for excellent service. These restaurants are optional, and as mentioned in the earlier section, there are plenty of great complimentary options to dine at. Think of specialty dining as a premium experience.
- A dining package sounds great! What's the catch? A. Unlike booking a single restaurant in advance and paying the full cover charge, a dining package restricts your ability to make reservations until you are on the ship. Your preferred dining time may sell out. Go to any restaurant or a "dining reservation" stand in the promenade on boarding day to make all of your dining reservations if you got a dining package.
You may see a "surf" and "surf and stream" option. The "surf" package will be artificially slowed down and can only handle basic web browsing, "surf and stream" allows some degree of streaming videos. I'd recommend choosing the faster plan. Some ships are being outfitted with Starlink internet service, scheduled to be fleet-wide by next year (2023) which should improve internet speeds on board.
- The Key: This program includes some additional benefits to add to your cruise vacation. Perks are changing, so check this link for included benefits at this time: The Key program benefits. The Key must be booked for everyone in a given stateroom and includes Voom Surf and Stream WiFi for each person.
- The Spa: Spa services are not included in your cruise fare. Check the cruise planner website for current pricing. 18% gratuity is automatically added. Note that once on board, there will occasionally be spa specials, for example on port days/slower days. Sea days are the most popular times for spa services and rarely see discounts.
- Fitness classes: Aside from morning stretch classes, fitness classes vary by ship and cost extra. Check the app to book fitness classes as they do occasionally fill up.
- Bingo/gambling: Bingo/casino gambling is, of course, not included in your cruise fare. If you plan to gamble in the casino, you must be 18 years of age or older. The casino operates in USD. Plan on bringing cash, otherwise ATMs are available for a $6.95 surcharge. Additionally, if you don't have casino status, you can charge your room for a surcharge for table games. You can charge your room for slot machines at no additional charge. Ask the casino host for instructions. Bingo can be purchased with your SeaPass card and charged to your on board account, cash is not accepted. Scratch off cards are available from the Cashier's Desk in the casino and must be purchased with cash.
- Laundry: With the exception of those with high enough Crown and Anchor status, laundry is not included. You can pay per item or ask your stateroom attendant for a "wash and fold" bag. You can fill the bag with as many clothing items as you can (it holds a lot) for a set price, usually $34.99. If you have your bag picked up for your morning room cleaning, it is usually returned by the evening of the following day unless you pay for the express option. Note that clothes are all washed together in hot water and dried on high heat. Do not use this service for sensitive items.

Topic 4: Excursions

- How do I book excursions? A. Excursions are a great way to explore new destinations. You can book excursions through Royal Caribbean on the cruise planner or app. Excursions can sell out, so book as early as possible. If you book through Royal Caribbean, the ship will wait for you in the event of delays. You can additionally go off on your own in ports of call, including booking 3rd party excursions. Keep in mind the ship will NOT wait for you if you go this route so keep an eye on the "all aboard" time and plan on being back early to account for possible delays.

Topic 5: Prohibited items

- The list is extensive! Check here for the current list of prohibited items. Highlights include firearms, marijuana/THC/CBD products of ANY form, drones, clothing irons, any other illegal drugs or weapons, and extension cords. Check the link above for the full list.
*Please do not ask how to sneak marijuana on board on the subreddit*

Topic 6: Things to bring with

- Two 750 mL bottles of wine are permitted PER STATEROOM, not per person. Keep these bottles in your carry on luggage, do NOT give luggage containing wine to the porters when you arrive at the port, you must hand carry wine on board. You may be charged a corkage fee if drinking your wine in a restaurant on board, though in practice, this is rarely assessed. You can ask for wine glasses at any bar. Wine can be consumed anywhere on the ship if you put it in a glass first, but may only be provided to those over 21 years of age on North American sailings.
- I'll list some items from my personal cruise packing list here: passport, COVID vaccine card (or picture of it), ear plugs, toothbrush/toothpaste, shampoo (though a 2-in-1 shampoo/body wash is provided in your cabin), sunscreen, sun hat, reusable water bottle, flip flops, long pants/clothing for formal nights, pen, gum, books, beach bag, sunglasses, masks if you choose, rechargeable battery packs.
*You do NOT need to bring towels. Towels can be checked out for free with your SeaPass card. Be sure to return them by the end of the cruise, otherwise it is $25/towel.
**This list will be expanded over time. Add suggestions to the comments below!

Topic 7: Smoking on board

- Ships are non-smoking with the exception of designated smoking areas (typically in the casino and on one side of the top deck, usually port side. Some larger ships have additional smoking areas on lower outdoor decks, such as deck 5 starboard side on Quantum class ships). Look for signage indicating designated smoking areas.
- No, you can't smoke on your balcony. It is a major fire hazard. Don't do it. If caught, it is a $250 USD fine and you risk getting kicked off the ship.
- You must be at least 21 years of age to purchase, possess, or use tobacco on sailings beginning in U.S. ports. For sailings beginning in all other ports, the minimum age is 18 years old.

Topic 8: Crown and Anchor Society

- What is the Crown and Anchor (CA) society? A. This is Royal's loyalty program. It operates on a point system, where every night you spend on board a ship counts as one point. If you sail in a double occupancy room solo or in a suite, you get two points per night. If you sail solo AND in a suite, you get three points per night.
- Points never expire and accrue over your lifetime. Additionally, you can "status match" your spouse and dependent children under 18. At the time your children turn 18, their status falls back to the true number of points they have earned at that time. To status match family, call the C&A Society at (800) 526-9723 to make the request. For example, I am Diamond Plus and could status match my spouse after their first cruise to automatically be Diamond Plus, as well.
- Benefits improve as you move up through the various tiers of the program. Tiers start with Gold status at 3 points, Platinum at 30 points, Emerald at 55 points, Diamond at 80 points, Diamond Plus at 175 points and Pinnacle Club at 700 points.
- A notable benefit includes 4, 5, and 6 free drinks per day, per person for those that are Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle, respectively. A full list of benefits can be found on this website. Pinnacle Club members also receive a free cruise for reaching Pinnacle, plus additional free cruises at pre-determined point levels thereafter!

Topic 9: Coco Cay/Labadee

- What is Coco Cay and Labadee? A. These are two fantastic private destinations offered by Royal Caribbean on many Caribbean sailings. Coco Cay is a private island that is part of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas. It was just fully renovated in 2019 (now called "Perfect Day at Coco Cay") with new attractions such as the elevated Coco Beach Club and Thrill Waterpark (both at an extra cost) along with many new free dining options. Labadee is on a peninsula in northern Haiti and is a private destination for Royal Caribbean, as well. Both locations are free to explore, with many complimentary beaches including chairs and umbrellas as well as ample complimentary dining options and activities. I would absolutely recommend both locations and would also suggest checking out some of the video tours on YouTube to get a sense of both places.
- I purchased a beverage/WiFi package. Can I use them at the private destinations? A. Yes! Both packages seamlessly transition to Coco Cay and Labadee. Additionally, the Bahamas typically charges an additional tax on purchases including drinks. So for example your $14 cocktail would be more like $14 plus 15% Bahamas sales tax plus 18% automatic gratuity. That can add up quickly. If you have a DBP or use Diamond/D+/Pinnacle drink vouchers, you do not need to pay any additional tax and your drinks are fully included.
- What costs extra? A. While you can have a fantastic complimentary day at both destinations, there are some extra purchases you can make. You will see excursions like snorkeling on offer on the cruise planner. Additionally both locations offer various types of cabanas for rent for the day. Coco Cay offers the Coco Beach Club, an exclusive beach area with a (fantastic) restaurant for lunch. You do have to pay extra to access this area, though lunch is included in the cost (I recommend the fried lobster sandwich with a *side* of filet and a Coco Cuvee for a beverage, thank me later). One thing to note: drinks are not included with admission to Coco Beach Club - you can pay a la carte or with a beverage package/voucher. You can also choose to spend a half or full day at Thrill Waterpark, which also costs extra. There is also a dining location called Captain Jacks right at the entrance to the island that is a la carte pricing.
- How do I pay for things at these destinations? A. Coco Cay and Labadee accept SeaPass card for all transactions with the exception of the straw markets which now take both SeaPass or USD. I recommend bringing some extra cash with you in case you wish to tip bartenders or servers, especially those that are running drinks to your beach chair.
Pro tip: Some itineraries (like my December 2022 Odyssey of the Seas sailing) hit both of these destinations in the same sailing!

[Rock] It Ain’t Easy Being Weezy: Weezer, Rivers Cuomo & Fan Culture in the 1990-2000s

Introduction
I don’t really know where to start this with, but…yeah.
For those of you who don’t know, Weezer is an American rock band formed in 1992, initially consisting of lead singer Rivers Cuomo, guitarist Brian Bell (who replaced Jason Cropper in the band’s inception), drummer Patrick Wilson, and bassist Matt Sharp. After the release of a collection of demos called The Kitchen Tapes in 1992, Weezer burst onto the scene with their first self-titled album, or the Blue Album (now that the also self-titled Green/Red/White/Teal/Black Albums exist) in May 1994.
Featuring phenomenal guitar work paired with bright, clean production courtesy of The Cars’ Ric Ocasek as producer and major promotion in the form of Spike Jonze directing the music video for lead single ‘Undone - The Sweater Song’ and the video for ‘Buddy Holly’ being prepackaged on the Windows 95 CD-ROM, the Blue Album was universally praised upon its release, being regarded as one of the best albums of the 1990s and remaining as Weezer’s best-selling record ever.
Despite this, the explosive success of the Blue Album was met with a lot of mixed feelings from Rivers as it later went platinum a year after its release. This ended up giving him a self-proclaimed inferiority complex about the music he was writing being too simplistic, and he strove to write more intense, complex music for Weezer’s next effort.
Songs From The Black Hole
Drawing from this goal alongside opera pieces like Aida, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s concept album Jesus Christ Superstar and Les Miserables for inspiration, Rivers decided to write a sci-fi rock opera as an analogy for his life on tour and relationships at the time, which would eventually be titled Songs From The Black Hole. Envisioned as a collection of continuous tracks ending with a coda of overlapping vocals from previous songs accompanying a reprisal of the album’s main musical themes, STFBH also carried an overarching story of space travelers aboard the spaceship Betsy II in the year 2126, culminating with the disillusionment of the travelers’ captain Jonas at the end of the ship’s journey and having Jonas wishing to return to simpler times.
While the characters planned to be voiced by Rivers, Brian, Matt and longtime collaborator Karl Koch alongside several guests like The Dambuilders’ Joan Wasser, recording of the album proved to be unproductive and a majority of the demos were eventually shelved, though the songs ‘Tired Of Sex’, ‘Getchoo’, and ‘No Other One’ would still find their way onto what would actually end up being Weezer’s sophomore album.
The (Madama) Butterfly Effect
During the early stages of making Songs From The Black Hole, Rivers underwent surgery to correct one of his legs being shorter than the other since birth, which was also accompanied by painful physiotherapy sessions. At the same time, he applied to Harvard for studying classical composition, detailing his disillusionment with the lifestyle of a rock star as part of his application letter only to find himself becoming lonelier and more isolated in college, which also led to Rivers’ songwriting becoming darker and more serious. Over time, Songs From The Black Hole was abandoned entirely as Rivers moved away from the more irreverent elements of SFTBH and focused on a new concept for an album loosely based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madama Butterfly, which would later go on to become Pinkerton, Weezer’s second album that released in 1996.
For context, Pinkerton was named after Madama Butterfly’s character of BF Pinkerton, a US naval officer who leaves his Japanese wife (the titular Butterfly) and child for a woman in America which drove the former to suicide in the play, with Rivers comparing his image of an “asshole American sailor” to a touring rock frontman.
Being self-produced and featuring a significantly distorted, more abrasive sound compared to the Blue Album, Pinkerton also featured deeply personal lyrics about Rivers’ loneliness, frustrations with relationships sexual or otherwise, and shades of his questionable-at-best views on women at the time (‘Across The Sea’ having Rivers fantasize about a letter from an 18-year-old Japanese fangirl with the lyric “I wonder how you touch yourself” directed at said girl) as a self-proclaimed uncomfortable self-portrait of himself.
In a statement to Weezer’s fan club on July 10th, 1996, Rivers wrote:
There are some lyrics on the album that you might think are mean or sexist. I will feel genuinely bad if anyone feels hurt by my lyrics but I really wanted these songs to be an exploration of my "dark side" -- all the parts of myself that I was either afraid or embarrassed to think about before. So there's some pretty nasty stuff on the there. You may be more willing to forgive the mean lyrics if you see them as passing low points in a larger story. And this album really is a story: the story of the last 2 years of my life. And as you're probably well aware, these have been two very weird years.
In short, imagine Kanye dropping Yeezus following The College Dropout or The Beatles releasing Revolver right after Please Please Me, and you’ve pretty much got a good impression of the drastic shift that going from the Blue Album to Pinkerton was.
So how did this go over with listeners?

Not particularly well.
Upon its release, Pinkerton ended up underperforming commercially, having sold only 47,000 copies on its first week. Fan reception wasn’t much better either, with Rolling Stone readers naming Pinkerton as the third worst album of 1996, and many listeners ended up feeling put off by the deeply personal and/or sexual nature of the lyrics. This took a major toll on Rivers’ mental health, with him later describing the fallout around Pinkerton as “like getting really drunk at a party and spilling your guts in front of everyone[…]and then waking up the next morning and realizing what a complete fool you made of yourself”, given the confessional nature of the record.
Hiatus
During the last leg of the tour for Pinkerton, twin sisters Mykel and Carli Allan died in a car crash in mid-1997. As the founders of Weezer’s official fan club in the ‘90s, they had served as liaisons between fans and the band and were pretty much known as Weezer’s two biggest fans at the time - the Blue Album deluxe track ‘Mykel & Carli’ was even written in the two’s honor. Their deaths were another factor that lead to Rivers and Weezer going on hiatus, and after the touring for Pinkerton ended, Matt Sharp ended up leaving Weezer in 1998 after growing further from the band and founding The Rentals, with the Weezer fan club ceasing to exist between their hiatus and the greater portion of Weezer fans migrating to the then-emerging Internet.
Rivers would go back to Harvard and start recording some demos with Brian and Patrick in 1998, but those sessions proved to be unproductive and resulted in Patrick leaving for Portland shortly after. As a result of these compounding tolls on his mental health, Rivers would then lapse into a depressive state after moving to an apartment in California, painting the walls and ceiling of his bedroom black while covering his windows with fiberglass and black sheets to block out light.
Back On Track
However, in early 2000, Weezer was given a high-paying offer to play the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan later that year, with rehearsals and performances under the alias Goat Punishment in the months leading up to the event rejuvenating the band’s members. After replacing Matt Sharp with Mikey Welsh as their bassist, Rivers also began production for Weezer’s third (and second self-titled) album. The band also brought back Ric Ocasek for production, in part due to the commercial failure of Pinkerton’s brasher sound and Geffen Records refusing to let them self-produce again for that reason.
On top of the aforementioned production choices, this was around the time that Rivers had a marked shift towards writing simpler, less personal songs and lyrics starting with the hundreds he wrote between 1999 and then, many of which remained as demos that the band narrowed down during production. Rivers ended up referring to said songs as "very intentionally not about me - not about what was going on in my life, at least in a conscious way.”, while record executives at Geffen ended up forcing several songs on the album to be discarded, which ended up streamlining the album even more. Even the artwork for the now-nicknamed Green Album was meant to call back to Weezer’s debut, and, by similar logic, veer as far away from Pinkerton as possible in all fronts. Essentially, the Green Album was meant to be an antithesis to the abrasive sounds and at times uncomfortably personal lyrics of Pinkerton (as this image kindly sums up), which Rivers reasoned would go over well with listeners…unless the unthinkable happened, right?
The Unthinkable Happens
That’s right, it turned out that…people started liking Pinkerton. As in *really* liking it.
During Weezer’s hiatus, the growth of their online fanbase and a general critical reevaluation of Pinkerton led to Pinkerton amassing a cult following and being considered Weezer’s best work of all time, something that quite a few fans still echo today. During the turn of the 2000s, Rivers hated this shift in popular and critical opinion, referring to the rabid fanbase around Pinkerton as “the most painful thing in my life these days” and calling Pinkerton itself “sick in a diseased sort of way”, which arguably spurred the course-correcting direction of the Green Album further.
As a result, the Green Album, despite its generally positive reception, slightly polarized fans and critics over its ‘return to form’ sound for the band, with detractors of the album pointing out its departure from Pinkerton’s style or the almost simplistic extent that its songs were condensed to. However, it was still commercially successful, especially more than how Pinkerton fared, being certified Platinum and selling 1.6 million copies in the US. The Green Album also enjoyed modest radio success with its single ‘Photograph’ alongside bigger hits like ‘Hash Pipe’ and perhaps most prominently, ‘Island In The Sun’, and these successes helped play at least some part in heightening Rivers’ confidence and softening his views towards Pinkerton over time.
The former ego boost, however, would be quite apparent immediately after the Green Album.
A Minor Tangent
It was also at this time that after touring for the Green Album, Mikey Welsh suffered a breakdown from drug usage, the physical and mental duress of touring and undiagnosed mental health problems like bipolar disorder, before being checked into a psychiatric hospital and leaving Weezer. He was replaced by Scott Shriner as Weezer’s bassist ever since, and after retiring from music to focus on his art career for several years, Mikey died from a presumed heroin-induced heart attack in 2011.
Maladroit, or How Rivers Learned To Stop Worrying And Took Advice From Fans
In part due to getting cockier after the Green Album’s success, Rivers pretty much threw caution to the wind for making Weezer’s fourth album, firing the band’s management and starting efforts for self-funding the albums. Among these snap decisions was Rivers’ idea of including fans in the creative process and taking their general input, which notably showed in the album title of ‘Maladroit’ that was contributed by fans.
In retrospect, Weezer’s fans naming the album the French word for “clumsy” proved to be rather ironic, given how much of the other fan interactions during production went over pretty awkwardly, to say the least.
While the band would release demos to the public via their own website, Rivers would also talk with fans under the username ‘Ace’, on a forum called the Rivers Correspondence Board for getting feedback on the current works in progress. However, the divide between Rivers favoring the band’s newer and future output and the many diehard Blue/Pinkerton fans who frequented the Correspondence Board quickly proved to be tenuous, leading to Rivers repeatedly arguing with fans over the direction that Maladroit was taking, and in one particularly infamous moment for the Weezer fandom, calling the universally praised Blue Album closer ‘Only In Dreams’ “GAY!GAY!GAY! DISNEYGAY!” compared to the WIPs for Maladroit.
if only you guys gave newer songs half the gay allowance you gave the old ones you'd love them.
i can't tell you the courage it takes to sing these lines every night.
This was basically Rivers at his most antagonistic towards the band’s fanbase, referring to them as “little bitches” in an interview that year and having a number of lyrics on Maladroit being about his dissatisfaction with the fanbase’s relationship and attitude towards him, namely in the song ‘Space Rock’. Regardless, the album’s liner notes ended up giving special thanks for Weezer’s fans upon the release of Maladroit, and was generally received well by audiences and critics, with some calling it one of the more underrated Weezer albums in the following years mostly because of it being more obscure in the general eye.
Said antagonism was also a partial consequence of Rivers’ drug use around the time, which went as far back as taking painkillers for his leg surgery and taking drugs since the Green Album, having written ‘Hash Pipe’ and Maladroit’s ‘Dope Nose’ consecutively in several hours under the effects of Ritalin. The nadir of Rivers’ drug use was arguably during the Maladroit tour in August 2002, where Rivers, having taken painkillers before opening an act in Osaka, saw Buddhist-themed decorations emblazoned with swastikas in an intoxicated haze and yelled “Heil Hitler, motherfucker” during their intro. Rivers would later swear off drugs and got clean soon after, but it remained an unsavory incident that he regretted.
What Happened Next
Throughout the production of the band’s fifth album Make Believe, Rivers would also start vipassana meditation after being encouraged to do so by producer Rick Rubin, which ended up influencing much of the production on that album and leading to Rivers mellowing out considerably in the years following his many inflammatory incidents with the Weezer fanbase in the making of Maladroit, alongside his mental health issues that led to and followed Pinkerton. Although Make Believe would start the trend of more thoroughly mixed critical and fan reception to Weezer’s output in general, it also remains Weezer’s highest-charting album and pretty much marked Rivers’ personal life taking a turn for the better, returning to Harvard to complete his education and getting married to longtime friend Kyoko Ito in 2006.
Wrap-Up
Weezer are still going to this day, with the third part of their 4-EP ‘SZNZ’ series having released just recently, Rivers providing vocal features regularly alongside the occasional solo song, as well as Patrick and Brian having their own bands as side projects. While fan expectations over their music direction have been a topic they’ve flip-flopped on throughout the years, taking a strong do-what-we-want stance with songs like “Pork & Beans” and sometimes swinging the other way with “Back To The Shack” pretty much being a promise to return to Weezer’s roots after the mixed-to-negative reception of previous albums like Raditude, Rivers’ dynamic with the band’s fanbase has certainly improved over the time since, what with being willing to cover Toto’s ‘Africa’ after fan requests on Twitter and just having some of the funniest memes from a band themselves. Hell, even the Weezer Fan Club was revived after the release of 2014’s Everything Will Be Alright In The End, with other venues of fan interaction like their official Discord server going strong as well.
In conclusion, although Weezer’s music remains with its share of major ups and downs alike to the point that many fans name the only consistent trait of their discography being its inconsistency, their real-world low points are all but long past them, with Rivers and the band being all the better for it.

This was the first time I’ve tried to make as extensive of a writeup as this and I ended up enjoying it quite a bit, with the main sources I looked from being Weezerpedia and the Wikipedia entries for the 4 albums in question. I’d also recommend Zeepsterd’s ‘Keeping It Weezer’ videos for covering the similar span of events here and MarcButEvil’s Weezer videos if you want to learn more about Weezer’s general history or going deeper into other albums like Make Believe or the White Album. Thanks for reading!

Rants of a Trophy Hunter - PSVR1 / Episode 2

Hello party people, I'm back!

What do you mean, you're back? Who the fuck are you and why do you interrupt my daily dose of discussions about Move Controllers not loading and backwards compatibility of PSVR2?
About a year ago I made a post about 100%ing 100+ PSVR games.
Rants of a Trophy Hunter - PSVR1 / Episode 1
The post gathered some interest at the time, so I figured I'd do it again to bid farewell to my beloved PSVR1 while salivating over the PSVR2 preorder.
At the time of this post, I'm the highest ranked PSVR trophy hunter in Europe and 5th in the world, 3rd if you discount region stackers (I do).
psnprofiles.com VR leaderboard
Region stacking is playing the same titles several times by accessing stores in other regions (EU, NA, JP, etc.) via VPN and a different account, which enables your main account to play them on the same console. Personally, I'd rate 100%ing Skyrim VR higher than three Job Simulator platinums, but that's not how the psnprofiles ranking works and is a discussion of its own. The players currently in 1st and 4th position are regionstacking.
I didn't quite manage another 100+ games like in the first post and this time settled for 70. This works perfectly with reddits character limit, as this time around I’m saying a bit more about the games on average. And I added a brand-new feature: Completion time! (⏱)
I listed my hours for all the following titles as they are shown on the PS5 under 'Avatar'>Profile>Games.
Example
The PS4 unfortunately lacks this nifty option, but the PS5 tracks it for your entire library, including all games you ever only played on PS4. The list shows full hours, rounded down. A playtime estimate of 1 hour is actually 1-2 hours real time.
Most of my numbers will be pretty reliable as I generally drop a game the minute the last trophy pops and this should be a neat little tidbit for both fellow trophy hunters and casual VR players alike.
Sometimes there might be inaccuracies in cases I left the console running with the game open over the day, which might skew some results here and there, but not too many.
In any case, some people will find these numbers interesting when estimating a game's content, let me know what you think!
Most of the blockbuster titles are in my first post, while this list contains way more shovelware. That’s what we work with this gen though, so here we are.
I'm looking forward to any discussions while we all wait for February to come. So here we go, enjoy!
1976: Back to Midway
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 2
Top-down scrolling dog fighting simulation that pretends to be 3D, but isn’t really. This concept was mind-blowing on Atari, but the VR version doesn’t feel fresh to me at all. This would have a hard time being good as a mobile game, on PSVR it’s just shovelware for trophy hunters or die-hard fans of arcade games. Tons of gold trophies + platinum though, so a must play for collectors.
Altdeus: Beyond Chronos
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 7
Story-heavy anime game. There is almost no gameplay. Instead, you witness a story unfold (it’s something like Attack on Titan in a sci-fi setting) and make decisions how to react, answer or take action in certain situations, which changes the story and leads to 8 different endings. This game has smooth graphics and tons and tons of voice lines. Unfortunately, I found no option to switch from English to Japanese. It was also not my cup of tea to have that much text and so little gameplay. The only game I made more use of the X-button so far was Red Dead Redemption 2. If you are a fan of anime and story games, this is a great purchase. Bad news for EU trophy hunters: The game has a DLC that is unavailable in the EU store, so you can’t get it to 100% (so I technically cheated by listing it here, with a meagerly 88%). The main list has a platinum though.
Alvo VR
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆☆☆☆☆☆ ⏱ 375
CoD or CS-like, fast-paced fps. Yeah, I didn’t mistype the playtime. I’m a tad angry about this, as there is no need to force your players to play your indie fps for as long as it takes to get Skyrim to 100% 4 times. I was the first player in the world to only need one more trophy to get the platinum for this, but then the game mode I needed to play literally died and I gave up on the game for months. You need 500 matches in the three main game modes Free-For-All, Team Deathmatch and Search and Destroy, which would be over 200 hours even with all modes equally accessible. SnD is tough to play though, as it requires a majority vote at the end of rounds, but most of the community only ever votes TDM. This game has the single most presumptuous trophy list of the entire system.
It's the only decent and viable PvP fps on PSVR though, given that Firewall is almost unplayable with the peer-to-peer servers and short rounds. That’s the reason I put up with Alvo for so long and give it 4 stars now, although it was often times super frustrating. This game is basically in constant beta state as every patch fixes a bug and introduces a new one, several of which would be unacceptable if there was any real competition. The devs focus is heavily on pushing new content instead of fixing issues, which is meh for veterans, but in the long run the superior choice to keep a healthy playerbase. With crossplay, there are now almost always matches going. If you want PvP action, you can’t get around this game and you’ll enjoy many hours with it. If Firewall fixes their issues on PSVR2 though and Alvo doesn’t improve, then there is no question about which will be the more polished fps of choice next gen.
Animal Force
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 7
Simple and cute little wave shooter with a bit of unlockable progression and a unique control scheme. An alien mastermind wants to take over earth and sends waves of mean aliens to steal humans. You quickly and strategically place and move animal units with different abilities in their path. The trophy list is a bit grindy, but straightforward. The game should be great for kids.
Baby Hands
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 3
You are a baby and for some reason home alone. After escaping your cage, you wreak havoc on all the rooms in the house. Goofy fun for beginners, with lots of clever mechanics to figure out, godawful controls and mediocre graphics for veterans, trophyshower with some annoying tasks for hunters.
Beat Blaster
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 5
A poor man’s Pistol Whip, but overall, an alright game. It’s tough to call it a rhythm-based game, as the music is omnipresent, but doesn’t affect the gameplay. You move through polygon-y levels while shooting and dodging things that would kill you (headsteering). There are 30 trophies and 30 levels, so this is as straightforward a trophy list as it gets. The levels get progressively more challenging, as each adds a new mechanic. The gameplay has some bad design choices. For trophy hunters a good buy, for everyone else there are better alternatives (Beat Saber, Audica, Pistol Whip, to name a few)
Bravo Team
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 5
Tactical shooter campaign with coop option (probably dead nowadays though, if you don’t actively look for buddies). Not too difficult, ok graphics, ok gameplay, more stationary than you'd expect. Mediocre across the board, which is slightly better than it gets credit for, so take that as you will. It’s basically a western style Mortal Blitz with some annoying trophies that require you to look for an online partner.
Budget Cuts
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 5
This is a very well done and humorous stealth game with mild puzzling. It’s teleport only, but that’s part of the gameplay as you can look through your portals to check if the room is clear before going through. You pick up sharp objects and throw them into enemy robots while looking for the best paths through a multitude of levels and grab collectibles here and there. If you don’t use a guide, you easily get double the playtime out of this. Solid number of trophies, 40 total, including a platinum.
Bullet Roulette VR
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 5
Shovelware trash with a questionable premise, even for a video game. Might be a good hour of fun if you play with friends (PS voice chat required, no in-game chat available). Only one gold trophy, no platinum, and you need people to get the trophies.
ChromaGun VR
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 3
Puzzle game with multiple levels. You run around with a gun that shoots different colors to paint the walls to affect androids and switches etc. Great for kids and puzzle fans. The trophy list just slightly overstayed it’s welcome with 1-2 odd things to figure out.
Coaster
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ <1
Shovelware trash. 4 low-quality coaster rides with no gameplay. If you want to show VR to your grandparents, this might be the game to try it. Short trophy list, but you can have this running semi-afk for half an hour while watching a show or something.
Contaigon VR: Outbreak
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 4
What Bravo Team is for tactical shooters, this game is for the zombie genre. Overshadowed by most of the genre’s competition, this game is pure mediocrity. Meaning this is a totally fine purchase if you get it for a discount and want to shoot some zombies. It offers some level variety, fun gunplay and an easy trophy list of 11 golds and a platinum.
CoolPaintr VR
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★★ ⏱ 2
3D Paint Program. Trophyshower. Only get this if you are a trophy hunter or an art enthusiast.
Dark Legion
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 1
I believe something went wrong with the playtime tracking on this one as I could swear, I played this somewhere between 5-10 hours. Alien FPS shooter with 5 levels, tons of very problematic bugs, bad controls, bad graphics, bad voiceover and an idiotic, but very doable trophy list. This is a pretty shit game, but fans would give it a star more for being slightly beefier than some shovelware.
Dead Land VR
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 5
Shovelware Zombie sidescroller (up-scroller?). You auto-run ever forward while dodging and killing zombies. In between runs you buy new weapons. I thought this was kinda fun for like 10 minutes, after that, not so much. The game is buggy, half the trophies don’t unlock how they should (restarting the game + trying multiple times works), it’s as dark as season 8 of Game of Thrones, every other run ends with the character getting stuck. Avoid.
Dick Wilde 2
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 14
Same as part one (which I skipped due to an insanely hard trophy list), this is a wave shooter where you play a funny little redneck rafting down various river levels, shooting at enemies. Levels have to be repeated for better score and different forks towards keys to unlock more levels and weapons. Other than the first part this one can actually be 100%ed by normal human beings and is a slightly above average waveshooter for the PSVR, wasn’t totally my thing though.
Dino Frontier
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 5
Dinos! It’s a tabletop strategy game with endearing graphics and story and a nice difficulty curve for casual audiences. Not much depth, so there isn’t too much to learn and remember, but it all comes together nicely. You send settlers to different tasks, like chopping wood, making food and training various dinosaurs with different abilities, while working towards certain level goals. This would easily be a 4-star game if it wasn’t for several issues, like being hilariously overpriced and crashing or freezing constantly towards the end. It looked like memory leakage galore at the end of my playthrough and I had to restart multiple times per hour. If you are fine with those problems, delight in dinosaurs and trophies, then this is a great title to play.
Down the Rabbit Hole
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 1
Graphically pleasing, short story game. Really well done, gives you a twist on the classic Alice in Wonderland story. Trophy list lacks a platinum and has only one gold, but you can get it all in about an hour. Not to be confused with The Rabbit Hole which is a different (worse) game.
Dragonride VR
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 2
A selection of levels and modes that let you do different things from dragonback, like shooting balloons and collect eggs to bring back to the nest. I’m really close to rating this shovelware, as there are a lot of ideas in there that simply don’t work well, to put it lightly. This feels like a tech demo with a lot of half-assery in it, including a really bad control scheme. The trophy list is solid though, a platinum + 9 golds for 2-3 hours of messing around on a dragon.
DWVR
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 2
Doom-styled wave shooter with a minimum of weapon-, level- and enemy-variety. This is unlikely to blow your mind, but it’s doing what it’s supposed to. If you really like wave shooters, medieval atmosphere and an easy platinum (+ 9 golds), then this game is a solid choice.
Fated: The Silent Oath
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 1
Nordic folklore walking-sim with 5 short acts and 2-3 very simple mechanics, 5 trophies, 3 of those gold, no platinum. I’d love to give this game 4 stars, but considering it’s more of an experience and way too short, I settle for 3. I found the graphics, the style and atmosphere extremely well done. This is one of the smoothest looking experiences on the system imo. I’d say this game is worth to be checked out just to get a feeling how awesome a MMO optimized for PSVR2 would be. I constantly thought “What if Zenith looked like this?”.
Fracked
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 7
Linear story fps. People hype this up a lot and I get it, this is one of the titles with bigger marketing at the end of the systems lifecycle. I still don’t think this is amazing, it’s just alright. Graphics are clean, but bland. Gunplay lacks oomph and variety, same as the enemies. Story is generic, the one type of collectible (coins) feels totally forced and can’t be tracked, 90% of the game is super easy with 10% being unfair difficulty spikes. The trophy list is alright, but there is one for clearing the game on hard (no laser aiming, only one life) that made me discount a star. There are few situations where you’d ever want to buy this instead of Borderlands 2 VR.
Fruit Ninja VR
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★☆☆☆☆ ⏱ 8
You have two katanas and slice through fruit that gets thrown into the air in front of you, in 4 different game modes. This is boring as a mobile game and it’s still boring as a VR game. The trophy list sucks and 7 hours were spent to get the one last trophy, which requires 50k fruit kills. Shovelware.
Fuji
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 2
Very artsy, beautiful experience/game. It’s in fact so beautiful, that I give this 3 stars despite it being extremely short. In 2 nature-biomes and a hub-like area you explore and collect seeds while solving some easy puzzles. Great game for kids and if you like colorful, dreamy experiences. The trophy list is short, but requires tenacity for the collectibles and I had to replay most of the game for one trophy not popping the first time.
Gun Club VR
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 16
This is THE gun range sim of the system. Lots of gun variety, clean graphics, clean gameplay and way more to do than you’d ordinarily think when presented with a gun range game. Tons of trophies too, with most being easy and only some being a mild headache.
Gungrave VR
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 2
Arcade shooter in the universe of the anime Gungrave. The anime is an absolute classic, this game is not. It’s not horrible, but not very good either. The gameplay flow is mediocre, but there are some fun moments. If you like a VR take on classic arcade shooters and happen to know Gungrave, this is alright entertainment for an hour or two. The mediocre trophy list isn’t too demanding either.
Gungrave VR U.N.
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ <1
Pretty much the same game as the previous, just with an easier trophy list and only 3 instead of 5 stages. They tried some different mechanics in this one, including 2D sidescroller parts that are quite fun. This game is shorter, but flows a bit better than the other one.
Hex Tunnel
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★★ ⏱ <1
Fly through kaleidoscope-y levels without touching objects. You are either supposed to “play” this on drugs or the dev(s) had a drug problem. What a wildly bad game. A platinum and 9 golds for half an hour of sensory pain though, a no-brainer for trophy whor…enthusiasts.
Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 16
Simplistic and colorful racing game in the anime world of Little Witch Academia. Harry Potter fans and kids will probably quite like this. I’d give this 3 stars if the online mode was actually racing against other people instead of being an empty sandbox. The core game is pretty bland, but it has some fun moments and a nice progression system with buying new brooms and perks. The trophy list is a pretty dumb grind.
Mini Motor Racing X
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 9
Arcade racing game with way above average quality. Tons of lovely, detailed levels. You can unlock and upgrade loads of cute cars (the balance is off though, always play and upgrade the “Formular”). There is normal racing, a dead multiplayer, a Rocket League clone and racing with weapons. Straightforward and easy platinum (for MP trophies host a lobby and race against bots), just requires to win something like 250 races, each around a minute long. Odd: This game gave me motion sickness, beginners beware.
Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 11
Fishing simulator in the FF universe. This game has some nice vistas and fishies, but is very rough around the edges. Tracking and terrain recognition are wonky, the fishing spots have too many obstacles to be immersive and the gameplay is very repetitive and unchallenging. In some missions the loading takes more time than the actual quest, once you know how to play. If you love FF, half-naked anime girls and fishing, this is THE game for you. The trophy list has a platinum and is straightforward.
Moss 2
🎮 ★★★★★ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 9
This is as much a masterpiece as the first part. Adventure puzzling/platformer with the most creative and graphically pleasing level-, world- and story-building on the system. I’m going off unreliable memory here, but after finishing this I felt like visually the second part was even more impressive than the first, but also felt a bit shorter. You 100% should play both of the Moss games either way. The trophy list for me is close to being 3 stars only, as the collectible stuff is somewhat annoying and certain combat-related trophies have unintuitive and forced requirements, but it’s really not that bad when playing a game this good.
One Piece: Grand Cruise
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 3
This is only for fans of the anime and even those will probably not be that invested. There is little to do and lots of grinding to get through an underwhelming trophy list. The basic loop is to get through 10 minutes of story where you decide which room aboard the ship to enter, to encounter various characters from the One Piece universe and click on items. That’s followed by one of two minigames, both of which are boring. Grindy and bad trophylist.
Pistol Whip
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 3
Really good rhythm-based shooter. If Superhot and Beat Saber had a baby, this would be it. You progress through various polygon-y levels and shoot bad guys for points. The more stuff you do on beat, the more points you get. Many levels and game modes, great music, the entire concept pulls you in quickly. One trophy was bugged after one of the earlier patches, but now works again as intended. It’s fun and rewarding, a must-have for everyone even slightly interested in the genre.
Republique VR: Anniversary Edition
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 12
Hidden gem. It’s a story driven stealth game with a unique concept. You are playing as a tech-savvy “big brother”, taking over security-cameras within a facility to guide a woman trying to escape from her captors during 5 decently packed episodes. You upgrade your technical capabilities to hack higher level security doors or gain various new tools like hacking email accounts. Lots of collectibles to find, all of which trigger interesting voice lines and/or add to the story. Unfortunately, the controls are lacking and the trophy list is a pain as the VR version of the game doesn’t have a NG+ function (the flat version does), so missing one collectible means you have to play again up to the episode with the missing item. Without a guide this game would be challenging every trophy hunter’s patience.
Rush VR
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 10
Wingsuit flying in VR! 5 Maps with various races and modes, lots of steering options to choose from. Has a multiplayer mode, which is obviously dead. The game doesn’t offer much on the surface, but I enjoyed the flow immensely, so I give it 3 stars. The (free) DLC level corrupted my savefile 3 times, but the cloud save fixed this issue automatically. Conceptually it’s comparable to VR Luge from VR Worlds, just better in every way. The hourly rate of trophies is pretty bad here though and there is no platinum.
Sacralith
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 4
Archery game with an ok presentation, including a small skill tree. You and a bunch of battle-monk NPCs follow a linear path through a few medieval levels. Teleportation only, but it makes sense, as the idea is to quickly get into strategic positions for good angles on the swarms of enemies. This game is a workout for the arms, you go through thousands of nocking and releasing animations. It feels a little bit like a tech demo, but the gameplay and graphics are alright. It’s a bit too dark and the balancing of the abilities is off. 3 stars is maybe a bit more than most would feel justified for the lack of length and variety, but once the shooting “clicks”, it flows well and feels satisfying. The trophy list looks daunting (10 headshots / 50 hits without missing), but there is one level in the end where these requirements are easy. A platinum + 10 golds, a good buy for trophy hunters.
Shadow Point
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 2
Very charming puzzler with great graphics, story and voiceover. The trophy list is also straightforward, just requires completing every room. The puzzles themselves revolve around finding objects in the levels and holding them into light sources to make shapes that turn into keys or effect the environment in some way. Sometimes you have to hand yourself objects in a mirror to morph them into a new object with a different shape. Great purchase for every puzzle fan and kids.
Shooty Fruity
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 10
Surprisingly great wave shooter. You are a late-shift clerk and try to do your clerking while evil fruits attempt to take over your discounter. Luckily you have an endless supply of armaments to defend yourself. Multitasking (clerking + shooting) is required. On your breaks you can find a vending machine that lets you unlock bigger and better guns. Enemy-, weapon-, level- and mode-variety is satisfying, the gameplay loop is fun and the trophy list is rewarding without being too difficult (it’s close to 3 stars though, you have to work for it and figure some things out).
Skyworld
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 12
Tabletop game with a unique and very fun mix of different elements. During a match you strategically progress on a mapped table and challenge enemy generals to eventually battle the final stronghold. In a fight, the table changes and you switch into a mode that can best be described as a 3D/VR version of Clash Royale, the famous mobile card/battle game. You cast cards from your hand that change into units that fight for you on the battlefield. Each unit has different strengths and weaknesses, so the way you build and upgrade your selection of cards + the correct timing to table them, decides if you successfully clear the campaign. Don’t expect much depth though, you will likely grasp everything within your first hours of play. If you like stuff similar to No Heroes Allowed, Tethered or Dino Frontier, then this game will make you happy too.
Soul Dimension
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ <1
Haunted house horror, but super short and with a weird control scheme. Shovelware, only for genre fans. For trophy hunters: YT-guide > 15 Minute run > 13 trophies (no platinum), tyvm.
Space Explore VR
🎮 ☆☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ <1
The fact that this pile of junk was greenlit for release is absolutely hilarious. Dethroned Drunken Bar Fight as the worst PSVR game I ever played. And the price of ~9€/$ adds insult to injury. The saving grace is a flawlessly working trophy list of 3 gold and one silver. I feel dirty for this purchase.
Space Pirate Trainer
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 3
Endless wave shooter with a fun diversity of weapons and VERY active gameplay. I couldn’t play standing up for three days after playing this for on hour, not realizing how much of a leg workout this is. It’s more of a 2.5 star though, not much depth here. The trophy list is a pretty tough skill check.
Squishies
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 13
Very unique action puzzleplatformer. Squishies are cute little monsters that need your guiding hands to progress through a wide variety of levels. Your hands in this case are blowers that you have to angle towards the Squishies to strategically blow them into the positions they need to reach the level goals. Great game for kids (and adults). The trophy list requires some trial and error and progressing all levels, which is a time investment.
Stunt Kite Masters VR
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 4
Shovelware, but does what it says in its name. So, if you really like staying indoors to launch a kite, this is your chance. The way the kite moves is convincing enough. The underwhelming trophy list requires some grinding and getting pretty good in one of the tougher modes, “Outrun”, which has your kite attacked by mini-planes. Beware of massive neck cramps playing this.
The American Dream
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 4
Hilarious on-rails shooter, that mocks the American love for guns. The flow is akin to a comedic version of Rush of Blood, but not with a shoot-to-score formular. Instead, it’s more focused on shooting things to progress the story. You are witnessing exaggerated scenes in the life of a typical American person using guns in every which way, be it at the prom, a date, a fishing trip, a BBQ and several more. There is a solid number of trophies, none too difficult. One or another will probably require replaying specific scenes via chapter select and the one type of collectible will likely be frustrating without a guide.
The Chantry
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ <1
I’d call this a historical museum-simulator and as such it isn’t too bad. Shovelware that you don’t feel angry about after. You run around a house in the 1800s and learn about the invention of the smallpox vaccine. There are some nice audio files to listen to and you can just run around, click everything and get 15 trophies for it. Only one silver, one gold and no platinum though, so 3 stars for the overall good trophy/hour rate.
The Copper Canyon Shoot Out
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★★ ⏱ 1
Unspectacular wave shooter in a cartoonish western setting, the antagonists are evil, steamy robots. Not terrible, but pretty shallow. Very quick 31 trophies though > trophyshower.
The Exorcist: Legion VR
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 3
Solid horror puzzler with short, but varied and atmospheric “cases”/episodes that are good for a few scary sessions. You have to download the later episodes individually, but they are all free, as far as I know. Controls are tricky, trophies too. Hunters play with a guide, or else this list is very annoying. No platinum, otherwise good hourly rate of trophies though.
The Guy VR
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★★ ⏱ 3
Tech demo that I would’ve given 2 stars if it didn’t have massive freezes at the start of every level and really wonky controls. You navigate a chonky guy through levels that require you to find a creative way to kill himself to get to the next. The general idea is alright, but the implementation is very lacking. The graphics are bad and the puzzles dumb. This game is trash, but it has a good trophyshower list.
The Lost Bear
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 3
Artsy game, presented as a short story of a girl getting lost in the woods, trying to find her lost teddy bear. Short, but visually solid game. It’s cheating the VR genre a little bit though, as it’s technically a 2D sidescroller running on a VR stage. Not many mechanics, only jumping, using the DS4 to activate switches and shooting a few things with a slingshot. Few trophies, no platinum and one annoying trophy for a no-death run.
The Mage’s Tale
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 14
This is a phenomenal dungeon crawler with deep and active fighting mechanics (blocking, dodging, changing abilities on the fly). You are a magical apprentice trying to free your master from the grasp of an evil sorcerer. Fancy menu system, lots of upgrading, mixing of magical spells and collectibles to find. The graphics are a bit too dark, but look otherwise very good. There is a generic, but alright story with good voice acting and music. The various riddles are engaging and the mix between fighting and puzzling is superb. For genre fans a must-buy. Trophy hunters need to be prepared that this is a very annoying game to complete. There are multiple missable and/or tough to figure out trophies. The collectibles are an absolute pain. Even with a guide it is a challenge to constantly keep track of everything. Without a guide I’d say the average completion time of this game needs to be double the hours I posted. Careful preparation can shave off a lot of hours from this platinum, while mistakes will be costly.
The Rabbit Hole
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ <1
Escape room game with subpar graphics, puzzles and trophy list. If you really like escape rooms you might give this a second star, but it’s shovelware. Not to be mixed up with Down the Rabbit Hole, which is a far better VR game.
The Wizards
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 4
Delightful dungeon crawler, a smaller sibling to The Mage’s Tale, with a unique casting mechanic that involves hand gestures. Some collectibles to find, spells to upgrade and puzzles to solve. Smooth graphics and gameplay, solid game overall. The trophy list lacks a platinum and only has one gold, but is easy to complete.
Time Carnage
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 26
Surprisingly solid wave shooter with a wide variety of weapons and levels to unlock. You can kill dinosaurs, zombies, robots or medieval fantasy foes, depending on which campaign mode you pick. 3 stars is still a bit on the generous side here though, as graphically this game is rather low quality and it’s not a very sophisticated gameplay loop. The trophylist would be tough to complete, but the harder trophies can be cheesed. My playtime here feels skewed to me; I thought I was quicker. But in any case, there are many games with a way better hourly rate of trophies.
Transpose
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 9
Polygon-y first-person puzzle game with a cool atmosphere and very unique concept. In each level you do certain actions that will repeat in an endless loop while you split your character into more “instances” of yourself, which have to find ways to work together with all the other versions of you, until all the loops congregate to solve the room. The later levels are quite a challenge. The trophy list could have more and better trophies, but it’s straightforward.
Tumble VR
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 17
Summon your inner builder! You stack bricks and other distinctively shaped objects to reach as high as possible, stuff a high number of objects into limited space, reach a specific position with creative use of the given blocks, or blow up towers with mines to score points. There even is a couch coop mode. For building enthusiasts a must, for everyone else a solid and simple game to show newcomers and kids VR with little risk of motion sickness. Completing the trophylist is a bit challenging, but there are a lot of golds and a platinum to achieve.
Unearthing Mars
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 1
Shovelware, and not the “well, this wasn’t too bad” kind. This game looks like shit and the “gameplay” is all over the place. Probably meant as a tech demo. The only reason to buy this would be the solid rate of trophies, even though it’s only one gold and no platinum.
Verti-Go Home!
🎮 ★★☆☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 3
This is another kaleidoscope-y game like Hex Tunnel, but way better. I can see this one actually being enjoyable for some people. If you want to rest your hands (only head-steering needed) and just want to get in the zone, racing along colorful tunnels and objects, then this is probably the game for you. The trophy list is underwhelming and one trophy in particular is a solid skill check.
Virtual Virtual Reality
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 4
I guess you could call this a puzzle game, but it’s in the style of stuff like Floor Plan or Accounting+. In a world where human consciousness is uploaded into machines, you help customer machines to have a good time in virtual reality while working on getting to the bottom of the darker underlying story. Above average game with a good mix of seriousness and humor, good graphics and voice acting. 1-2 trophies were a headache to figure out and there is neither a platinum nor a gold.
VRobot
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ <1
In this trash game you trash cities as a giant robot with different abilities. Bad shovelware. Easy trophies though, but no gold or platinum.
VRog
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ <1
You are a frog and eat insects for points while jumping from leaf to leaf, trying to avoid a gigantic stork. Maybe alright entertainment for small kids, but not a good game. Shovelware/tech demo. 11 easy and quick trophies, no platinum.
Wanderer
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 27
Story/adventure/puzzle game that rightfully got a lot of hype. The world got out of balance and with your apartment as your base of operation, you collect objects that somehow manipulate spacetime to travel to different places and eras to get the timelines back on track towards a good future. You have to solve the timeline’s challenges by collecting and combining objects, kinda like a point-and-click adventure in VR. The level variety is great, the graphics are solid and the flow of the riddles and story is very engaging. This is definitely one of the better games for the PSVR connoisseur, but I found too many issues to rate this as a truly amazing 5-star experience. One aspect of the game is to heavily manage inventory, which is bad enough a mechanic in a puzzle game. On top of that, the items in this game have the annoying habit of glitching into nothingness in between loading or when dropping them in a bad spot and then being lost forever, at worst forcing an entirely new playthrough or backtracking with older saves. In certain spots the controls and grab detection get super wonky too, making you fight your environment way too much to have a smooth experience. I also have doubts that everyone will be able to solve the game without the guidance of a walkthrough. Your watch companion helps you a bit when you ask him, but I found that mechanic lacking on more than one occasion. Thus, the super long list of 51 trophies is a huge headache at certain times. Nonetheless, the game is a must-play.
Waltz of the Wizards: Extended Edition
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ <1
From within a magician’s room, you access a small variety of simple minigames/-puzzles. This is a boring tech demo with very few redeeming qualities, one of which is the trophy list with 12 trophies you can all grab in half an hour. I guess if you REALLY like gimmicky magic stuff, then you could buy this in a sale without being disappointed…much.
Winds and Leaves
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★★☆ ⏱ 10
This is another one of the bigger marketed titles of the last year. Very beautiful game, solid graphics, calm atmosphere and story, unique gameplay mechanics. You are a druid/god-entity, trying to bring nature back into a barren world. You do that by collecting, combining and planting tree seeds in the corresponding soil type along your way, which opens up the game world more and more. The trophy list flows well and feels rewarding without anything too difficult. If you absolutely need action to be invested in a game, this one is unfortunately not for you. Everybody else should check this game out.
Witching Tower
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 3
This is a solid, but not quite mind-blowing dungeon crawler with pretty cool and detailed graphics. It’s another little sibling to The Mage’s Tale with a melee protagonist instead of a magical one. The gameplay is mostly smooth, although the fighting lacks a certain finesse at times. There is some light puzzling to do, some collectibles to find and lots of skeletons, bigger skeletons and bat-monsters to kill. The trophy list could’ve been a 4-star, but it felt a bit annoying at times for several missable ones to keep an eye out for.
Wraith
🎮 ★☆☆☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 1
You select one of four equally too dark and foggy sceneries in which you stand around and kill monsters that close in on you in endless waves. Killing them yields money that you can invest to buy different weapons, ammo and gadgets. If you think this sounds like fun, I’m sorry, that wasn’t my attention. This is shovelware trash that’s not even worth lunch money.
You Are Being Followed
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 1
First off, this game is FREE! And I’d judge this to be the best natively free PSVR game you can get your hands on. It’s an artsy game in which you play a blind lady going on a walk with her dog, experiencing a mix of real and abstract dangers. The visuals are dark and disturbing, definitely a cool experience for fans of these types of games. The closest comparison I can come up with is Stifled. Quick and easy trophy list (with a guide), only the 9-minute speedrun is a tad annoying. No platinum.
Yuki
🎮 ★★★☆☆ 🏆★★☆☆☆ ⏱ 7
Hidden gem. This is a beautifully crafted bullet-hell roguelike in which you use the move controllers to navigate one of multiple unlockable Bladewings through 6 levels with 3 bosses, while collecting temporary power-ups or currency for permanent upgrades. All Bladewings play very differently, so while being short, the game offers lots of replayability and challenge. Only one gold trophy, no platinum and the 100% is a skillcheck. Play standing up and use as much space as possible, this is a very active game. With a tiny bit more variety I'd have given this 4 stars.
Zenith: The Last City
🎮 ★★★★☆ 🏆★★★☆☆ ⏱ 86
As far as I know the systems only MMO. It has a generic story, mediocre graphics, wonky controls, almost no endgame, balancing issues, little quest variety, BUT IT’S AN MMO! No, seriously, this game is not super high quality (yet), but let’s be real, the PSVR1 is not powerful enough to deliver an A+ MMO experience and this game is as solid as can be for being a generation too early. It’s also constantly being improved, and due to crossplay it’s easy to find a full server and have tons of fun in open world activities or questing with random people you encounter. Servers are called “shards” in this game and you can switch shards whenever you like, while keeping all progress. There is proximity chat, which makes connecting to new people really easy. The community felt mature and friendly when I played. There is no competition for this on PSVR, so 4 stars feel justified. The trophy list is too short for how massive the world is (only 16 total, but 10 of those golds + the platinum), but it’s also easy to follow, as you just play all the quests and level to max (40). This game will be a banger on PSVR2!

That's the end of the list. Mabye to be continued on PSVR2...

Howdy Reddit!
Welcome one and all to my 200 Seller Point Extravaganza Sale! We have contests! We have free shipping for repeat customers! We have good mix of items including some Star Wars stuff and a soon-to-be opened Grogu Tube! Hopefully there is a little something for everyone. I mean there are so many items I got tired of listing them... seriously I think my post is almost as long as a Lyle Murphy post!
****************************************************
Now let's get to the good stuff!
****************************************************
🙏Customer Appreciation Sale🙏
Thank you everyone who I have had the pleasure of doing business with since I came here. Anyone who has purchased from me before can enjoy free shipping this time around as well as some extra freebies.

❓Weekend Guessing Game❓
Edit: The contest has concluded and the judges are calculating the results....
I was surprised to see what the scale weighed and thought we had a good chance of someone nailing it... You guys and gals were getting close!
u/eatatacoandchill was the first person to try the single digit approach with 555g
u/an11_0 followed up with 444g closer, but not there yet...
u/DespotOfMorea came out strong with 210g but u/G1LD_ARTS used the price is right strategy and guessed of 211g.... only 11g off the total!
The target this time was 222g

It is Saturday and time to harvest some of those sweet-sweet upvotes... and the best way to do that is with a fun contest! Guess the weight of the newest geode we found near the base of the Cumberland Plateau in Dunlap TN. This is the smallest of the new ones, and these are by far some of the best ones we have found... just loaded with crystals. Some may say that you can feel the hippy energy just dripping off of them.
Just comment with your guess in grams for a chance to win! For my fellow Americans here is a handy dandy little calculator to convert our Freedom Units to grams.
If your the closest you can choose between an oz of silver below spot ($20) or $1 in Mercury Dimes for melt ($15) and I will cover the shipping... BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE. Whoever guess the closest AND makes a purchase (before the contest ends) will get a nice crisp $20 bill, or a 1oz round included in their package for FREE!. Double the Winners, Double the FUN!
Finally a few rules to the game just to keep things fair...
****************************************************
Proof - I know this didn't show up in the feed since it wasn't the first pic... but lets be honest Grogu was is more photogenic.
I tried to price things in line with comps I could find, and what I would be willing to pay, but since there is a large variety of items I am sure I missed a few. I try to add a little wiggle room on my prices so I can be flexible on larger purchases and offer free shipping. That being said reasonable offers (especially if supported by comps) are always welcomed. I did not make this post just to haggle, so please no "Whats your Best Price" messages. If my prices are too high feel free to drop me a message so I can adjust, and if they are too low then buy my shiny and toss me an upvote.
A few things for this post...
  1. When I do a large mix of items I often end up doing a lot of smaller sales and multiple packages. Each sale takes time Please be patient, especially if it seems there are a lot of messages. I will get to you as soon as I can.
  2. There is some great SEC football on today. Posting earlier than normal so I can get the bulk of the work done early. If the games are close, responses may be delayed
  3. PMs works better for me than Chat for keeping track of everything. Please PM me via the Reddit Mail here after you comment. This way it will alert my phone and I will get you in the queue. I do not mind using Chat to hash out any details and finalize the deal so if you prefer Chat to PM just let me know in the message and when it is your turn I will find ya in the chat.
  4. I will get you tracking shortly after payment, but I will be waiting until tomorrow to package everything up and send the proof pictures with the label confirmation.
Ok, ok, ok, I have kept you waiting long enough, here is the shiny up for grabs today!

Delta/American Express SkyClub Change - Expanding Potential Why

On April 2, 2019 Delta and American Express announced an extension of 11 years on their contract, “American Express and Delta Air Lines have signed an 11-year renewal extending their exclusive Delta SkyMiles Credit Cards from American Express portfolio through the end of 2029.” Source
In the sourced article above, it is stated, “As the two companies work together, Delta expects its benefit from the relationship to double to nearly $7 billion annually by 2023, up from $3.4 billion in 2018, strengthening Delta’s increasingly diversified revenue stream.”
Interestingly enough, when compared to an article published April 10, 2019, “Several analysts tried Wednesday to get Delta executives to share more details about the new 11-year contract extension announced last week, but the airlines’ leaders repeatedly declined to answer, citing confidentiality. “Let me suggest that we have pretty good optimism on getting to the $7 billion in that timeframe we gave,” Delta CEO Ed Bastian said on the airline’s first quarter earnings call on Wednesday.” Source
When pressed for more, Ed stated the following in the same article from Skift, “[…] One analyst asked whether American Express might pay more money than usual per mile under the new deal, or whether Delta might be paid more per sign-up, but again, Bastian demurred.
“We are going to be investing alongside Amex in new cardholders, not just acquisitions but development in terms of spend and portfolio size and range and the opportunities to expand,” Bastian said.”
To expand on the vocabulary of “new cardholders,” Delta may be referring to an article from 2017 which suggests, “At Delta Air Lines, marketing executives have a phrase to describe customers and potential customers younger than 35 — and it’s not “millennial traveler.”
They prefer to call them “Emerging High Value Customers,” or eHVCs, Delta chief marketing officer Tim Mapes said Thursday, and they’re increasingly important to the carrier’s revenues.” Source
Further in the same article, “But there’s more to it. Delta has noticed younger consumers are 60 percent more likely than non-millennials to buy-up to premium products, such as seats with extra legroom and first class upgrades. In addition, they place so much emphasis on onboard Internet that it sometimes drives “share-shift,” allowing Delta to take customers from airlines that have no, or unreliable, Wi-Fi.
This preference for premium products has been profitable for Delta, the airline’s president, Glen Hauenstein, said Thursday.”
Going back to our first article, Ed stated the following, “Younger travelers might not fly often, but if they have a co-branded card, Delta can keep track of them.
“Do we invest in acquiring high-value potential customers early in their life?” Bastian said. “Absolutely. It’s one of the reasons I think our brands align so well because we have similar strategies in terms of our think about our brands and how we think about consumers.””
Lastly, CNBC ran a recent article concerning the changes and stated the following from Dwight James, “We want to invest in our customers who invest in us," Dwight James, Delta's senior vice president of customer engagement and loyalty, told CNBC.
James said feedback from passengers has shown they want to avoid stressful crowds and lines at the airline's lounges.
"It's not representative of the experience they're accustomed to," he said of the recent crowding. James added that some of the most crowded lounges have been at hub markets such as New York and Atlanta, and that Florida has also been busy.” Source
Taking in this information, in relation to the recent reasons given for the SkyClub changes and SkyMile Member changes, I am led to believe this is a direct result of how Delta has pledged themselves to operate. Perhaps the suspicions of providing lower care for higher tier members bears weight given the targeting of new, young, travelers. However, I’d further propose this is Deltas doing.
Why?
If lounges are most full at New York, Atlanta, Detroit, and Florida, then we should reference club availability and flights offered.
To start, Atlanta’s domestic terminal offers flights to 51 states totaling over 300 flights. But, that number does not include the number of flights coming from Florida that often require connection in Atlanta. If not, you connect in Detroit offering the same options as Atlanta but offering over 400 flights. Source (Use the drop down for specific airport data.) The same goes for New York, but amplified due to the presence of multiple airports in the area.
As such, each terminal appears to have about four clubs for higher areas. But Florida? Almost non-existent, if truly at all. Which puzzles me given the high volume of travel to Florida. Why connect to Atlanta? Why not hub MCO?
Expanding on that, I believe Delta does not currently possess the workforce to expand and therefor find themselves rapidly trying to uphold their promises. Rather than building new clubs, Delta seems to be refurbishing their current clubs and preparing to expand in 2023 as growth allows. Source
But, some clubs will max out at 353 guest. On surface that seems good, but breakdown the capacity of flights, and the number of people who would potentially access the club, we’re talking fractions.
So what’s really happening?
No idea, I’m not an analyst. But, I would suspect that Delta is interested in growth and growing American Express while catering to the, “eHVCs.” I suppose they don’t expect higher loyalty anymore and instead focus on the quick profitable turn.
I guess you could always apply for a Capital One Venture X and pay $395 for Priority Pass Lounges access. Which offers far more access benefits than the Delta branded AMEX and is cheaper than the Platinum.
Then again, many others rival.
Delta stands apart by offering a level of service others necessarily don’t. But even so, this community, and others, have voiced several service issues lately.
The question I’m asking is, “Will delta become ‘another player,’ or continue to try and set themselves apart. Right now, it is not the latter to me.

[Pop Music] How one bad joke cost a singer the support of an entire country for the rest of his career

Introduction In the early 2000's, Tiziano Ferro was a rising star in pop music. An italian singer, with a baritone voice, a handsome appearance and soft pop ballads. He was a magnet for a worlwide audience, but particularly, that of latin-american countries with his spanish / italian lyrics. In 2004 and 2005 he was certified with gold and platinum discs for his album "111 Ciento Once", by the mexican association AMPROFON. He lived in Mexico for a time, and the audience loved him.... until the incident. _ Controversy In 2006, Ferro went in an interview with the italian show Che Tempo Fai. Everything was going well until he tried to be funny and made a joke at the expense of mexican women. Quoting him: "It's not possible to say that mexican women are the most beautiful in the world. With all due respect, they are mustache-y." The interviewer tried to interject, saying that it could offend some people, and that apologies were asked for. To which Tiziano decided to continue the joke. -Ferro: "I understand, and I'm sorry, but even they know it!" -Interviewer: "Well, personally I do think they are the most beautiful in the world" -Ferro: "But how many? Salma Hayek, that's the only one I've seen" He probably thought it was an innocent joke. Less than 20 seconds of an interview, which was in italian, so who would care? _ Fallout Around that time, Ferro was touring to promote his new album * Nessuno è solo (Nadie Está Solo)*, "Nobody is Alone". But according to the response of the mexican audience, it seems he was the one alone. When he arrived in Mexico City for his tour, he was received by a group of different media outlets and...not much else. Some people thought fans would arrive with fake moustaches, as a way to lighten up the situation or show defiance, but he was met with complete indifference of most of his former fans. But not everyone left him alone, for outside his hotel, members of his official fan club showed up to claim support for him. Ten of them. Media asked for declarations from CD stores, which responded that "the number of albums that had to be given back was confidential". Radio stations received some angry calls if he was played. He wasn't banned, stations had his new songs, but they just weren't playing him anymore. People stopped asking for his songs during request hours. He dissapeared from the local MTV channel top lists of the year. His 2006 album didn't even enter the 100 Most Sold Albums of the year. The conductor of the most popular morning talk show wore a fake mustache and ripped a picture of him on live TV (Remember, this is 2006, TV is still The Thing) Fans basically turned their backs on him. To show the extent of the damage that one joke caused: He then released other 5 albums, from 2006 to 2016. None of them have ever sold out in Mexico again nor did they received any certification from AMPROFON since 2005.
